Spring Clean Your Bedroom

Welcome to the glorious season of spring cleaning!

It's that refreshing time of year when you finally get to throw open your windows to let in the bright spring light. The warm breeze and fresh air feels nice right? However, you will also begin to notice the layer of dust and grime that has built up in your home all winter. Yikes! You’ll begin wondering how you lived in such a place. Time to switch that spring cleaning mode to ON! Want to sleep better, longer, or more comfortably? It’s the perfect opportunity to evaluate the state of your bedroom. You never know, there could be such things as old bedding that needs to go or dusty light fixtures. This could be compromising the quality of your slumber. Spring cleaning can turn your bedroom into a tranquil sleep sanctuary. Are you ready to have the most peaceful sleep you’ve had? We’ve come up with a practical list of six ways to transform your bedroom this spring:

1. Assess Your Bedding

Is your mattress old, saggy, or generally uncomfortable? Have you been waking up with back or neck pain? These are good indicators that it’s time to indulge in buying a new mattress. It’s important to invest in a high-quality mattress! Equally, make sure your pillows are comfortable and supportive for your neck and head. If your sheets are worn or strained, it’s time to replace them.

2. Start a Load of Laundry

Take the time to strip all your bedding; pillowcases, sheets, comforter, and even that throw blanket that you don’t remember the last time that you washed. Get the laundry going while you’re doing the rest of your cleaning!

3. Clean the Floors

Use warm soapy water and a microfiber cloth to wipe down the baseboards in your bedroom. Move your bed around so that you can vacuum the spaces that get neglected and build up dust. Use the vacuum extension to get the corners of your bedroom that your vacuum can’t reach. Ahh doesn’t that feel nice to get that done? No more dust under the bed? To freshen up your carpets, go ahead and sprinkle them with baking soda and let it sit for a few minutes. After that, vacuum the carpet twice, once in each direction.

4. Keep it Cool

Those hotter months are approaching! Being hot while you’re sleeping can wake you (and possibly your partner), especially if you get sweaty. No one wants that! Keep your bedroom temperature cool, ideally between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit, to help you sleep better. However, sometimes that is not enough. Tossing and turning during the night will make you hot regardless. That's why it's important to add a KulKote adhesive to your bedding and pillows. Doing so will ensure the quality and quantity of your sleep. If you feel hot at night, a KulKote Certified Product will help you stay cool.

5. Check Your Lighting

If you haven’t already, it’s time to ban electronics (including computers, tablets, phones, and TVs) from your bedroom. The soft blue light that these devices give off can suppress melatonin production. Strive to find the right balance between a soothing mood lighting and light that’s bright enough see and read by. If you want to use a lamp on your nightstand, the bulbs should be around 60 watts (or under). These bulbs should filter out blue light. Now that the days are becoming longer, it’s also easier for outside light to seep into your bedroom. It would be a good consideration to invest in blackout shades or curtains.

6. Clear the Clutter

It’s time to create a relaxing environment! Declutter your nightstands, closets, and dresser so that they are organized. Throw away piles of unneeded magazines, clothes, mail, or other items around your bedroom. We aren’t saying that you have to go completely minimalist, it’s fine to keep some books and pictures on your dresser. Just be sure to eliminate unneeded chaos. Whether you realize it or not, this creates stress within your brain.

Spring cleaning is a worthwhile exercise of scrubbing, polishing, and decluttering. It’s a great benefit for your health and wellbeing. With the completion of your spring cleaning, you might even earn yourself a dinner out with all that change you find under your bed (Ok, maybe just a pint of Ben and Jerry’s). You may also be shocked when you see what you discover with spring cleaning. Remember those favorite pair of socks you lost? What was lost will always be found! Plus, now is a perfect time to invite your mother or in-laws over! Happy spring cleaning!
